Tonight’s episode of Cold Case was set in 1984. They used this forgotten gem of a song — I’m Free by Kenny Loggins. I gotta say, the dance montage in the show made me cringe almost as much as this video does.
Another song from the show … When I was 10 or so, the woman in this video epitomized the 80s woman to me. I so wanted to be like her, swingy haircut, beret and all …
And this is for Snarky Cool, whose use of “I can’t quit you” made me laugh quite heartily …
And for B00ger, the best of the Brokeback parodies he ever showed me …
I broke the 10-lb mark tonight at Weight Watchers! It was a close one — I had the, shall we say, hormonal fluctuations that most women deal with — but I knocked out 1.2 lbs this week to bring my total to 10.6 lbs.
Have you seen the nasty photos of that loudmouthed skank from American Idol? I think her name is Antonella. In one, she’s pulling an American Beauty, lying with rose petals scattered about. In others, she’s in a sheer white shirt at some fucking WAR MEMORIAL. Oh yeah, that’s hot. Not. I have a feeling she’s going to show up in the “Sexy or Skanky” column of Cosmo or Glamour or whatever.
I am feeling quite kick-ass tonight. Maybe I’m finally get adjusted to my medicine and of course, I am pleased as punch at how well WW is working for me. Speaking of, it’s time to eat more. Got more points to use …
and not all of her, was what hurt them both.” A while ago I posted that I tend to watch movies that either make me laugh or break my heart. Sigh. The other night I watched “ShopGirl” with Steve Martin and Claire Danes. I already listened to the audio book, so I knew the story and I knew that the end made me sob. The movie was no exception. I skipped the middle, as I knew what was going to happen, and went straight to the last four scenes. Oh good gracious. It was like every line was designed to evoke tears in Miss Monique. I won’t bore you with the details but suffice it to say the final scene between Ray and Mirabelle led to some wipe-away-the-eye-make-up kind of crying.
There’s kind of a big deal in the news here about local churches wanting to show the Super Bowl. The NFL is well-known for its protective policies, and sent a letter to a church outlining what’s acceptable — namely no usage of “Super Bowl,” and the game can’t be shown on a TV larger than 55″. The NFL also doesn’t want the Super Bowl involved with any sort of “message” event. Yeah, it’s a bitch, but whatever. The NFL can make the rules. So today I read that a different church here is going to defy the NFL because the church is taking “a stand for what’s right.” Give me a break. Read about it here.
It does my heart good when good actors from NYPD Blue pop up in other shows … tonight, the guy who played Medavoy was on CSI. I loved NYPD Blue. I haven’t had the same attachment to a show since. And for my money, it had one of the greatest theme songs ever.
It was a long day, even though it wasn’t even a full day. I went to the dentist this morning and didn’t get to work until 9:30 a.m. I did my best avoiding the floor-wide pitch-in lunch and succeeded until I ate three fruit bars from Awrey’s bakery. I love Awrey’s. They have a big facility by my parents and I love their date bars. Nine points on WW, redeemed only because I spent an hour working out and “earned” back points for two of the cookies. I also felt like crap after I ate the cookies. Lesson learned.
Had my first weigh-in tonight and I am down … six pounds! I was tres pleased with myself. I did 45 minutes on the bike after work today … and I. Am. Tired. Gah. (You can track my progress on my weight-loss page.)
I’m watching Miss America, but it’s just not the same watching it without my mom. The opening parade of contestants is our favorite part, although it’s best in the Miss Universe pageant, and I always enjoy the introductions of the judges. But the best best best best best part is the talent competition. Granted, we are two women without any sort of pageant-like talents, but that doesn’t make us unqualified to sit in judgment. It’s just what we do. And I always root for a brunette. That’s just how it goes.
To hear “Under Pressure” by Queen and David Bowie used in a commercial for “Buy Me” on HGTV.
It’s just not right.
Part Two:
This is even less right — a digitally recreated Orville Redenbacher. I want to purge my pantry of all microwave popcorn. Right. now. Read about it here.
My first crush was Fonzie … but once I saw “CHiPs,” my loyalties quickly switched to Francis “Ponch” Poncharello. Mind you, I was about 5 years old at the time. I still have a great love for “CHiPs.” It isn’t an exaggeration to say that I have seen probably every episode. I have even had the theme as my cell ringtone and PC start-up sound at various times. I remember being very young, watching “CHiPs” every day with my best friend Andra and eating grilled cheese for lunch. Good times!
“Armed and Famous” debuts tonight … and the best part? It was filmed about 20 minutes from where I live. Hilljack central.
(Yeah, it’s the disco version. I couldn’t find a clip for the original. I’m gonna go boogie now.)
His fabulosity shines through the grainy video clip.
One of my favorite episodes, with Laura Branigan. It features the “fake” Jon, the guy they brought on when Larry Wilcox wanted more money, though, and young officer Bobby what’s his name. Boo.
Some other fun facts: The guy who played Arthur “Grossie” Grossman appeared in a really moving HBO special about the death of his wife from cancer. My dad and I watched it, not realizing what it was about. We both cried. Robert “Sgt. Getrear” Pine has appeared in several shows this season including “Vanished” and “Criminal Minds.”
All season long, I have watched. Faithfully. One by one, they left. Now it is just Mario and Emmitt.
And now the fucking station won’t come in!
What. the. hell. I have cable, this is the ONLY channel that is affected.
I am ready to drive downtown and bitch-slap someone at the local ABC affiliate.
This blows.
Edited to add: Praise be to God, ABC made their HDTV station available. In the few minutes during which I was floundering, I came across this post. It can’t be serious yet I see no evidence that it’s tongue-in-cheek. Sigh.
And in case you didn’t know, Tuesday night is apparently sing-along-with-Eminem night in my building. Stop by next week; it’ll be a blast.
God, I love the Kids in the Hall. Aside from being pure comedic genius, life lessons are contained in each episodes. Such as, I, feel confident that I too, am not going to spread for no roses.
