I PPH infomercials. I remember back when longer commercials were finally allowed because my mother and I were sooooo excited. We both love infomericals, as a matter of fact. The first thing I bought from an infomercial was that twisty thing for your hair — I can’t remember what it was called — basically a piece of fabric with a wire in it LOL. Fortunately, infomercials have come a long way since then.
Hawthorne Direct is a premiere, full service television advertising agency specializing in creative/production, media and integrated marketing. Need a TV infomercial? Some of Hawthorne Direct’s clients include Mercedes Benz, Black and Decker, AARP, NutriSystem, Inc., and Discover Card — so they’re not your run-of-the-mill, middle-of-the-night infomercial production company. Nay. Hawthorne Direct offers a complete range of services including long and short form infomercial production, TV commercial production and media buying, among other services. They’re the complete package.
If you have a product you’d like to sell — Mr. Fab’s sculpey creations, perhaps? — Hawthorne Direct is the perfect place to start.

I
am a total spaz when it comes to keeping my data backed up. At times I’m diligent but other times I’m not and poof … that’s how I lost a TON of files when my old computer crashed. That was a frustrating, sad day. I didn’t want to go to the trouble of buying an external drive of some sort (I don’t even know what they’re called lol) and doing all of the required maintenance. That’s why this sounds so cool. I didn’t even know that an online backup service existed.
IDrive-E offers encrypted online back-ups for free (up to 2GB) and unlimited storage for $4.95 a month. IDrive-E claims to be “saving the world, one computer at a time!” and if I had known about their service two years ago, I would have been a much happier girl!

Sept. 21 is World Alzheimer’s Day. This is a cause close to my heart because my grandmother suffered from Alzheimer’s for many years. In fact, the signs of dementia started showing up nearly 20 years before she died.
One way to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s Disease is to be socially responsible and host a Purple Party on World Alzheimer’s Day. I love to plan parties.
What are some things you can do to have fun and raise money and awareness? Have a garage sale and donate half the proceeds (be sure to let your buyers know!). Collect contributions from your book club. Have a dinner party and ask your guests to donate what they would have spent on dinner and drinks if they had gone out to dinner.
Once you decide to on your party details, be sure to register your party on actionalz.org — you can create your own page for the party, send an e-mail reminder to your guests, even take donations online. AND the first 150 people who register their parties and commit to raising $150 will win an awesome gift pack, which includes a DVD of Alzheimer’s Celebrity Champions, speaking points about Alzheimer’s, donation forms and envelopes, cocktail napkins and thank you cards. What a deal! PLUS all donations in September will be matched dollar-for-dollar by The Harrah’s Foundation.

When I was married, my then-husband and I owned a home. Home improvement was not my thing. I had no idea what I was doing … and either did my husband. We were paralyzed by indecision, mainly because it was so overwhelming. Should we start with painting? Or landscaping? Or add wood floors to the entryway? Update the front door? ARGH! Little did I know that knowledge is power.
A visit to Do It Yourself.com would have saved me a lot of agony … and maybe even from losing my temper when my ex broke the smoke detector trying to change the battery. On second thought, nope, I’d still be mad about that.
The worst project I can remember was when I asked my husband to install a light in our loft area. The rough-in (or whatever it’s called) is there, he just had to stand on the ladder and install it. He hemmed and hawed and hemmed and hawed; when he finally got around to it, he couldn’t do it. I still don’t know why. And instead of putting the little cap thing back into the ceiling, he left the wires hanging down. IN OUR TELEVISION AREA. He REALLY could have benefited from a visit to Do It Yourself.com. Maybe I should send him the link.

Winter is coming so make sure your home is well insulated. This will help you save on heating costs. Of course Do It Yourself.Com has information about how to insulate attics!
