My friend D. came back to work today after a week’s vacation. She spent her time working 8-9 hours a day in her yard. She mentioned she had been feeling short of breath and had indigestion pretty bad. Before I could yell at her, she said she had a doctor’s appointment in the morning.
After work, she called me. “Hey, what are you doing?” “Just driving back from the library. What’s up?” “Umm … could you take me to the doctor?” OMG. I am surprisingly good in a crisis. I told her I would be there in 10 minutes and asked if she needed an ambulance. She said no, but I almost called one. When I got to her, she looked better than I expected. I yapped all the way to the hospital and dropped her off at the cardiac ER.
I stayed with her for about 3 hours. Fortunately it doesn’t seem to be her heart. Unfortunately, it is most likely her gallbladder. When I left, they were waiting for confirmation of a bed at the main hospital. The doctor was pretty confident the surgery would be tomorrow; I started laughing when he asked me if D. had a favorite surgeon while she was off getting a CT scan.
In other news, I called the asshat last night. He still hasn’t called me back. What was I expecting?! Christ. There’s a new prospect; he was e-mailing me on match.com today. We’ll see. I’m meeting speed-dating guy next Wednesday for dinner. I think I’ll spend the weekend being lazy and maybe getting a pedicure and reading a trashy book or two …
