Back to Work

My 3-day physician-imposed vacay is over as of 8 a.m. Friday. Sigh. My fever was up again last night, so I called to talk to the nurse this morning. When she returned my call, she seemed very concerned with my froggy voice. It’s quite … unappealing. Not my usual husky, sultry Monique-has-a-cold voice. No, this is more like Monique has aged 50 years overnight after being a lifelong smoker. To make me feel worse, ANOTHER nurse called me this afternoon to check in on me, and the first nurse promised to call me Friday as well. But, sad to say, the doctor thinks that my “recovery” is about on track. Apparently, tonsilitis - strep + highish fever = I’m screwed. It will most likely be another week before I’m feeling tip-top. Yay.

While I was gone, some poor guy used my computer, as I’m about the only person on our floor with a full version of Adobe Acrobat. I have to warn him tomorrow to go to the doctor if he so much as coughs. He’s a cute kid, I’ll feel awful if he comes down with my ebola.

I was a slacker and didn’t make it to the post office to ship back my Netflix movies. So now I won’t get new ones until Monday, probably. I currently have some rather large late fees at the library — and an overdue book I still can’t find! — so perhaps it will be a Blockbuster weekend. I can’t imagine any of my friends wanting to spend much time with me. And I can’t say that I blame them. Sigh.

I know, I am unspeakably tragic.

Wait, doesn’t that mean I won’t speak of my tragaliciousness? Never mind then.

It’s Like My W. Calendar Brought to Life

Is Bush an Idiot?
Somehow, the guy arguing that Bush is just inarticulate, not unintelligent, isn’t comforting. It’s a long clip, but interesting.

Aaargh!

My fever is back up. Last reading was 100.5. Son of a bitch. Not that I wanted to go back to work, but I’m frickin’ sick of being sick! Guess I’ll be dropping another $25 co-pay at the dr’s office tomorrow. Yay.

I think I am going to have to break out the big guns for entertainment tomorrow. I burned through six episodes of season 4 of the Kids in the Hall. My only Netflix movie left is “Donnie Darko” which may be too disturbing for my current state. There’s nothing on PPV … that means, I may have to watch … the one, the only …

honky tonk freeway

I am starting to think that my family and I are the only ones aware of this masterpiece. Sigh.

No! Tell Me It’s Not True!

NLphoto6

So Jessica Simpson, a classy example of an ex-wife if I’ve seen one (unlike myself ha ha), has said that Nick Lachey, my future husband, is underendowed.

Noooooo!

I refuse to believe that Nick has a small wee-wee! In my dreams he is hung like a horse so hung like a horse he shall be!

Near the end of my marriage, things got a little testy. But I never — never! — pointed out the ex’s skillz or lack thereof (at least to his face lol). As far as I’m concerned, a girl’s got to save those comments for when it’s time to be really hurtful. Far be it from me to draw a connecting line between the Mercedes and what he’s packing, but, oops, guess I just did.

“Alright You Icy Bastard, How About A Hot Cup Of Joe?”

I’m not doing a very good job at doing nothing. I woke up at 5:30 a.m., just because, took my antibiotic and ibuprofen, then went back to bed until 8:30 or so. I made pudding, started cleaning up the kitchen and got tired. So I sat on the couch for a bit, then took another nap until 12:30, when it was time to take my medicine again.

I had to call a local theater to pay for my season tickets and was embarassed at how I sounded. I explained to the poor guy that I had tonsillitis and only had to repeat everything about twice so he could understand me. Sigh.

cabin boy

Now I’m watching “Cabin Boy” with Chris Elliott, one of my favorite stupid movies. When it was in the theater, lo those many years ago, I had to bribe my little brother to see it with me. We regularly say, “How about a hot cup of joe, you icy bastard?!” to each other, just because. Ah, sibling expressions of affecton.

Some other gems from this movie:
Paps: Get out of my face, you half-assed Ingmar Bergman.

Nathanial: I love sitting up here, looking at those bright, twinkly things in the sky, I forget their technical name.
Trina: Stars.
Nathanial: Whatever.

I’m Sick

Boo hoo. I have freakin’ tonsillitis — without strep. Apparently this is unusual. I’ve never had strep though, or tonsillitis for that matter. I was a horrible co-worker today — I went to work with a fever. I had no idea. My temp at the dr’s office was 101.3. Oops. Anyway, I’m stuck at home for the next two days; longer if my fever stays around. I haven’t had forced sick time in I don’t know how long.

I think my doctor is kind of cute. Is that weird? He’s married, with a passle of kids, I’m sure, but I don’t think he’s more than a few years older than me. He calls me “sweetie,” which I’m sure is habit, but it’s kind of disconcerting. Like, we could have gone to high school together, please don’t call me sweetie. My old eye doctor used to call me that too, until I realized he graduated from college one year before me. He was a hottie though.

By the end of the day I was able to see the humor in my ex-husband now driving a Mercedes. Most of the clarity came from one colleague repeatedly telling me that I was too cute for my ex. Tell me that enough and I’ll believe anything lol. My brother sent me a Steve Seagal clip from “Mad TV” to cheer me up. That was nice. It’s on my MySpace page if you’re one of my friends. Jean Claude Van Damme is in it too. Good times!

Yay, BNL are Back

I’ve liked Barenaked Ladies ever since “Be My Yoko Ono,” back in the day.

I heard their new song, “Easy,” yesterday, then forgot about it until I heard it again. It sounds less gimmicky, which is nice. My favorite songs by them are “The Old Apartment” and “What a Good Boy.” I think the guy who sings those two songs is kind of cute. : )

Blah Blah Blah

It’s been a blah weekend.

I saw my ex again yesterday, that was a special treat. Twice in three damn days — why now, after previously running into him once in the past 18 months??? He drives a Mercedes now. I had to laugh — the guy who didn’t even know how to deal with valet parking now has a “luxury” car. That is so him — all about appearances, nothing of substance.

Don’t get me wrong, I was upset to see him — I don’t know if he saw me — but that’s mainly because I spent my weekend alone. My plans for last night fell through so I had way too much time to think. It doesn’t help matters that the only man who has shown interest in dating me over the past 4 months was one that I had no interest in. Sigh.

I’ve thought about moving, but I don’t know if it’s my location that is making me unhappy or if I’m making myself unhappy. I’ve lived in Indiana since 1998 and what do I have to show for it? A job at a company that made it very clear to me last week that my position is not valued. A few friends. A nice apartment. An ex-husband and a couple of ex-boyfriends. My cats. That’s how my nearly eight years here breaks down …

My parents want me to move back to Detroit. I couldn’t afford to live near them; I’d be 20 minutes away at best. And with my brother’s crazy hours, we couldn’t get a house together — we’d always be waking the other up.

So I don’t know what to do. My lease is up at the end of October and I feel entirely unequipped to make any sort of decision. Maybe I should stick it out another year here, save more money, think things through.

Sigh. I don’t like it when I feel like this. But I guess the pendulum has to swing back sometime from frivolous and carefree. And I’m not trying to bring any of y’all down. I’m just trying to work it all out …

“I’ll Take The-Rapists for $100, Alec”

God, Sean Connery/Jeopardy skits on SNL crack me up.

Anyway, I’m slowly working my way through my old posts, categorizing them. Sorry if that messes you up if you use Bloglines or any other subscription service. I hope they don’t all show up as new. What a disappointment!

I’ve added a new category — “Monique’s Favorites.” I like all my posts, but I’m saving this for super-special posts. A la “The Tragic Tale of Pastor Carl.”

Oh, I have a new polling feature to try out, but I can’t think of anything to ask about. Suggestions?
