The president today used his veto for the first time — to knock down a bill about stem-cell research. Like there aren’t more important things to worry about.
My grandmother died from Parkinson’s. My other grandmother lived with dementia for years. My aunt has multiple sclerosis. I have friends with diabetes, friends with HIV, friends who have had cancer. But, apparently, protecting the “sanctity” of a few cells is more important than improving the quality of life of millions of people.
Compassionate conservative, my ass.

∗ Annoyances, Politics

Bush shouldn’t have vetoed this bill. Even Bill Frist, understands that medically, this could help end terrible diseases. I think Bush has helped the Democrats for the upcoming elections this fall. One mainly i can think of is Gov Jennifer Granholm who is in a tight race against Dick Devos for her re-election as Governor. Dick is on board with Bush and that isnt going to fly very well in Michigan. On the other hand, Granholm has called for ending this ban, and she is promoting life sciences industries as part of her economic plan. Republican or Democrat, stem cell research should be supported. Too bad our president doesnt know that.

It’s so pathetic how politics can get in the way of medical advancement and globally beneficial procedures. I always say, “Cut Bush some slack…”, but this time, he deserves all the sh*ts thrown at him!

i voted for the bill that passed to have california pay a lot of money/incentives to get major stem cell research here. not sure how this veto will impact this, but i think our president might change his mind if he spent time with some actual sick people. then again he’s probably too stubborn.
